Now we know what the nation as a whole loves and what their favourite dog breed is. However what about different areas and cities? Is this list the standard across the country or are there other local trends?

Here we will look at the top dog breeds in Boston. Boston is world famous for it’s culture, arts, history and cuisine. It is an iconic city, known throughout the world and an important place in the history of the USA. So what are the most popular dog breeds in Boston and do your tastes match or differ from those unique Bostonians?

Here are the top 5 breeds in Boston for the year 2016:

  1. Labrador Retriever
  2. Golden Retriever
  3. German Shepherd Dog
  4. French Bulldog
  5. Yorkshire Terrier

The Labrador is unsurprisingly in the top spot as it is the perfect all rounder. They are fantastic pets and extremely popular with everyone from single people to families. They are a great companion and fun for the while family. Easy to look after, groom and train make them the ideal dog for the majority of people.

The lab is America’s number one and it seems that patriotic trends continues in Boston.

The Golden Retriever has also show Boston’s love of the good all round dog by rising up to 2nd place overtaking the popular German Shepherd Dog. It is no surprise as dogs like the Labrador and Golden Retriever are excellent dogs for anyone. They are easy to maintain, good sized, easy to groom and provide great company.

The Bulldog has been extremely popular especially in big cities and areas like California and New York. There is also a big celebrity following for bulldogs and especially frenchies. Many celebrities and high profile figures such as Lady Gaga, Hilary Duff, Hugh Jackman and Leonardo DiCaprio have been pictured with them on social media. This may have boosted bulldogs in general especially in places like Boston where the big story has been the French Bulldog.

Previously in 9th place, it has had an extraordinary rise this year and is up in 4th place. There current is a big French Bulldog trend nationwide and it seems Boston is fully embracing this new found love of the Frencies!

The German Shepherd Dog lost its 2nd place spot and it may have to keep a look out over their shoulder. If the French Bulldog trend carries on then it will be no surprise to see them fall further behind.

The Yorkshire Terrier is also going strong and remains in the top 5. IT has been on the decrease in recent years but in Boston it seems the people are sticking to their New England roots and the Yorkshire Terrier remains strong every since it was brought over from England in Victorian times.

This list does show how diverse people’s tastes are in dogs and how diverse dogs breeds are as well. One of the reasons dogs are so popular are that they have so many different breeds, traits and behaviour. There will always be a dog that fits your personality out there.
